Keanu Reeves Inspires

I know right!

What the?

Writing can be about fun topics. Not always serious and about the themes that surround our lives on a daily basis.

I just finished watching 'John Wick'. A movie with themes of love, loyalty, vengeance and retribution. With a great soundtrack. Set in New York, not my favourite place, but worked well as the background of this action packed movie.

Who remembers Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure? Which I do love as an eighties child. To this day it still makes me laugh. As does his bogus adventure 󾰀. They weren't his first movies, but they are the ones I remember him for initially.

But between that movie and the one I have just watched occurs a remarkable career. I am not going to list all his movies, but who doesn't love Point Break? And we all know of The Matrix, even if we don't rate it. Or the sequels.

He has been the subject of many a write up. I still remember the reviews of Johnny Mnemonic as saying that such a wooden and robotic performance was perfect for Mr Reeve. The recent reviews of his performance in Generation Um in which he was bagged because he appeared old, pasty and overweight. Or as some of us call it, Human...

He has had a career that has spanned decades. He has re-invented himself from that goofy underachiever to a martial arts and action hero archetype over this time. He has been involved in a wide variety of movies from Shakespeare to Asian historic culture.

Having watched him grow over the years as I too have grown, I applaud and appreciate his talent. I have no idea whether he is married, straight or otherwise inclined, and I don't care. I don't do the fan thing, having to know every part of his life, but I do think he would be interesting to talk to. He was born in Lebanon. His movies have universal appeal and global themes. And yet most think of him as an American. Is that not a testament to his appeal and his talent that we see him as 'one of us'?

While trying to think of what to write today, it occurred to me to have some fun with this challenge to write everyday during October. And while watching his latest offering, I thought 'why not'? He has had an amazing career. He has obviously challenged himself in many ways and seems to want to stretch himself artistically.

Good on you Keanu Reeves.

You inspire me.
